Think of the Algarve in Southern Portugal and most people think of its endless beaches and fabulous climate, which is mild in winter and yet cooled by sea breezes in the heat of summer.

However there is much more to the Algarve than just sun and sea. It has a unique charm which derives from the warmth of its people, its Moorish influence and the rich diversity of its majestic landscapes.

Portugal’s beautiful coastlines are characterised by miles of superb sandy beaches, pretty fishing villages with winding narrow streets and some of Europe’s best golf courses. Further inland you will find idyllic white-washed Moorish towns that shimmer in the sunlight over olive and orange groves and brightly coloured, verdant hillsides.

The area is home to some of Europe’s most established luxuryresorts which have excellent facilities and settings. A haven for sports enthusiasts, you can enjoy all manner of activities from golfing on the championship golf courses to sailing, surfing and water-skiing to a day at the world class tennis clubs. If you want to take some time out to enjoy some Portuguese culture you will find it in abundance in the pretty town of Tavira with its Roman Bridge or Lagos with a historic centre surrounded by 14th century walls.

Head further north to Lisbon, a vibrant and welcoming city with a vast amount of culture to experience. Tucked away from the main Atlantic  coast line, it enjoys a temperate climate and is home to some beautiful hotels.

Very good hotel and our apartment was great - spacious, well equipped and clean. Very child / buggy friendly. Resort is large so can easily be a 10/15 minute walk between different places / restaurants but we liked this aspect. Not much to see on foot outside of the resort so you definitely need a car if you want to explore. Overall very good.

We had a great holiday at The Residence, Pine Cliffs. The apartments are very well equipped (dishwasher, washing machine, dryer)- it is very hard to think of anything that is not provided. The apartments are large - which felt very luxurious in comparison to a hotel room - and added greatly to our holiday. The complex offers great variety on your doorstep to entertain a 4 year old - the play park with lots of activities, beach, choice of pool, large areas just to run about in and also the resort train. Will definately return again. The location of the apartment can be very far from the main facilitates, but staff were happy to change it to accomodate us - otherwise this would have been an issue. The only thing which we would comment on was the welcome on arrival, which was very self service until you got to reception, which is fine, but not in keeping with that received elsewhere at accomodation of a similar standard

We enjoyed our holiday in Pine Cliffs. Residence apartments were beautiful and well equipped. Staff were very friendly and service good. We found the cost of food and drink very high especially in the deli shop. In addition, the cost of eating in the hotel restaurants was too expensive relative to the food provided, i.e. not value for money. In particular for children 5 to 12 years. We booked, in advance, a transfer from Faro airport to hotel which cost €75. We arranged our own taxi for the return journey for €45. The hotel are charging too much

We had a most enjoyable stay at the Pine Cliffs Resort Portugal, excellent food & facilities. Sadly some of the restaurants were closed which made finding somewhere to eat a bit difficult at times. The rooms were great, spacious & well maintained. The staff friendly & helpful. Overall we would consider returning without a doubt. Thank you, James Thompson & family.

We stayed in the Pine Cliffs Residences and the accommodation was fantastic- all very new and clean. Lovely furnishings and an excellent fully equipped kitchen. We had requested a sunny terrace and an apartment up near the Kids' Club and got both of these, we also paid the supplement for a ground floor apartment. Service was impeccable and the resort itself is beautifully laid out around a golf course and everything is very well looked after with lots of grassy areas for kids to play on. It was full of English and Irish families with young children when we were there (June) . The only downsides were: - everything was very spread out and it was a LONG walk to get anywhere - we have a 31/2 year old and a 10 month old and I really wish I'd taken the double buggy as it was just too far for him to walk everywhere (kept us fit though!) - the walk from the bottom of beach lift to the actual beach was a good 10 minutes with lots of steps so you couldn't take a buggy which made going there virtually impossible for us. The beach was lovely when you got there though.- cost of food, it was really difficult to leave the resort as it was such a long walk and the restaurants in the resort were lovely - the buffet breakfast was fabulous though, I'd definitely book Bed and Breakfast before I go next time.

The resort was very good - good facilities, beautiful grounds, etc. We stayed in the Residence apartments which were an excellent standard but, having stayed in many 5 star resorts in the past I would have expected the apartment to be equiped with a DVD player and not have to pay 10 euros per day to rent it. A lot of the restaurants and pool bars were closed as it was middle season - this was not ideal. The kids club could be better - cleaner, more equipment for toddlers. There are lots of pools but only one outdoor heated one which was disappointing. Good resort but use of facilities expensive

A luxurious 5* hotel set on the clifftops and in beautifully kept gardens.with a 9 hole golf course. To be able to sit outside on an attractive terrace and eat breakfast in late October was a real treat.Attention to detail is part and parcel of the hotel staff's brief and we had a good relaxing break. We celebrated a special birthday with lunch at the beach bar and the staff made every effort to make it enjoyable.

Great hotel with fantastic facilities for all the family. Lovely beach and pools, sevice levels very high, friendly staff. Restaurants all good. Only negative is that prices within the resort are extortionate. Having said that, you always have the choice of going outside the hotel. We will definitely return.

Very pleased with cleanliness and upkeep of Residence apartment. Good variety of clean, safe swimming pools. Glorious beach, but surprised (especially considering superb weather) to find all water sports shut down as for winter. Arrival at Resort was frustrating! Early start/Delayed flight and confused Satnav meant |that we finally got to Pine Cliffs weary and frazzled.....we could find NO staff in the complex to tell us where our apartment was or how to check in! Local supermarkets and shopping exceedingly poor, possibly all shutting up for winter as well....... saved by on site mini-market, and Apolonia!

great hotel but the food in the restaurants was both average and thus pricey for what it was. Staff good and helpful and our 1 year old enjoyed it but they really need to work on the food and drink offer to encourage people to eat in the hotel.

We stayed in a 2 bed Pine Cliffs apartment which was fantastic and very luxurious. The onsite facilities were excellent and everything was very clean. Food and drink in the restaurants and shop was at a premium though. We had a really lovely holiday.

Sheraton Pine Cliffs: Brilliant holiday - fabulous apartment and amenities. Recommend to all my friends. Recommend the Residence accomodation since it is separate from the Hotel and has a great pool and views of the Golf Course. only 10 minute walk/or 5 minute shuttle bus ride to the Hotel/beach. Kids Club great and staff wonderful.

We first visited this resort in June of this year and loved it so much that we returned again in August. I can't fault it. A truly fantastic place to spend a family holiday. Looking forward to booking again for next year!!

Yet again, this part of our holiday was wonderful. The apartment was excellent, spotlessly clean and the whole family had a brilliant time! Pine Cliffs is so relaxing, safe for the children and even though I was told it was fully booked, there was plenty of room for everyone to relax! This is really a lovely place and would recommend it in an instant!

Accommodation was absolutely excellent. However, resort is extremely large and for the money paid, I would have preferred not to sit around a pool with hundreds of other people! Also, given that you are picked up from the airport and have no car of your own, you do feel isolated from experiencing the actual country itself. All restaurants on site are v good but also extremely expensive and I come from London so am used to high prices! Excellent staff at childrens clubs. Wonderful breakfasts.

It was a fantastic resort with everything you could want. I would say that we were very lucky with the location of our apartment as we could have ended up in one of the apartments at the back end of the resort and that would not have been good. We were also on the ground floor which made a huge difference. The children's club was good although it could do with some refurbishment. They have a wonderful space but have not made the most of it. Also the age groupings need to be re-evaluated as my 2 year old was in the group with 6 month old babies and got a little bored as she wanted to run around and play, that said the people running it were great. We had a lovely holiday and would deffinitely go back. Many thanks for making the process so easy.

Excellent resort for children and adults - there is never a moment where there is nothing to do. Lots of space, all area's clean, Porto Pirata, with it's bouncy castle and small bikes, the pools and the shuttle 'train' are great for small children. We will visit again. The only downside is the costs within the resort for food and drinks but there are local supermarkets.

The hotel was wonderful, as were the service, food and facilities. Nothing really that we could fault. Complimentary bottles of water each day in the bedrooms would be a nice touch though. We would definitely visit this hotel again.

The third time we have stayed at the resort and it is a great all round resort which ceratinly caters very well for children - although given the recent completion of further apartments the resort is begining to get very crowded at peak times. This can make it difficult to book tables in the restaurants and also to get beds round the pools - you really shouldn't have to get up early in the morning to put towels down to secure sun beds at a 5 star hotel!

We have had a great week at the Sheraton Pine Cliffs. As repeat guests I had requested a specific apartment location and floor and both requests were met. The standard of the accommodation, service and facilities all again exceeded our requirements. The staff are efficient, friendly yet extremely professional too. The only area that I think needs improvement is the quality of the food served in the restaurants. To some degree you are held to ransom. Meals are not cheap and we did not feel that they represented value for money. For a 5* resort I think some attention needs to be paid to offering 5* food. Overall though we would definitely go back.

Its a great hotel but a few things I was not entirely happy with: 1. the cost of things in the resort itself is generally very high ( 7 Euros for a liter bottle of water in the apartment. 2. the fact that you have to pay for broadband connections in the hotel - when the marginal cost to the hotel is very low. 3. the fact that there was not washing up liquid for hand washing cutlery or any detergent for the dishwasher or washing machine - its an incovenience to buy this and for the money we are paying you would have thought they woudl provide it for free. 4. the apartment block we stayed in looked over one of ther restaurants so you got a steady hum of the some sort of machine and the constant claking of people washing up cutlery - I would definitely ask for one of the buidings not overlooking the kitchen if I was to got there again. 5. generally the infromation about how to get the best of the resort in advance was not provided (e.g how to book tennis lessons/courts and spa sessions before you get there) as its very busy and it was difficult to boook these once you got there.

Stay at the Residence in a very good 2 bed apartment with great views across the golf course...much better that staying at the hotel which we did 3 years ago. Compared to that time the number of residents has increased substantially and critical facilities such as the beach beds and spaces around the pool have not increased in equal proportion with the net effect of the resort at peak times feeling very crowded.....more 3 star than 5 star. Notwithstanding the above my wife, daughter and I really enjoyed our two week stay which met our expectations. We went to the Abama last year which was quieter but with less choice of facilities and less flexible with sports options. I would be happy to return to either of them as long as we could secure the same high level of accomodation and service.

Excellent Pine Cliffs accommodation allied to facilities at Sheraton Algarve hotel made for an enjoyable holiday. The 3 bed Pine Cliffs Residences were superb. My only negatives were twofold : 1 They need an adult only pool. Most pools were dominated by toddlers and presumably other children will come when the school hols. start. 2 THEY NEED TO BE CAREFUL ON PRICES. Yes it is 5 star and I can pay for it but in keeping with many comments on Trip Advisor wow do they charge.5/6 Euros for water and very high prices for soft drinks as well as 13 Euros for a chicken burger means families are paying a lot. It is a beautiful resort with so much to recommend but I probably wouldn't return if the prices edge up further-they are at the limit now in terms of what you can get away with.We played tennis /golf and again very high prices. You just feel they are really out to make money particularly on food/drink which is a shame. So in terms of below it is a 7 but I have marked it down to 5 just on these price issues. We paid 18 Euros for 4 ice creams ! Great if you can get away with it but not great in terms of making me go back.

Very good hotel - friendly and good levels of service from the hotel staff. It is set in lovely grounds at the top of a cliff overlooking a wonderful beach and next to a golf course. I travelled alone with my 2 3/4 year old daughter and we both appreciated the 'Pirate Club' for kids which was basically a full day creche for children from 6mtths to 6 years. Good choice of restaurants and bars, and generally the hotel is clean and relatively modern (although not ultra modern). Would recommend to all types of travellers and holiday makers - a little bit of something for everyone

We really liked the hotel. Our first night we were moved out to block 10 but by the next afternoon we were moved to block 3. That's when the vacation started. I don't think I would have enjoyed it half as much if we weren't moved. We did three nights half board. It was great for the first morning but it became more of a nuisance after that. The buffet at the residence reception (O'Grill) was much handier. Rooms were very modern and clean, microwave was the same as the one at home which was handy. The only complaint occured the last day. The transfer car back to the hotel only had lap belts (not shoulder) and they were very slack. I was very anxious about having my children travel in that state of a vehicile. We didn't have time to wait for another car. The hotel was very good and would reccomend it to others with small children. Thanks.
