Think of the Algarve in Southern Portugal and most people think of its endless beaches and fabulous climate, which is mild in winter and yet cooled by sea breezes in the heat of summer.

However there is much more to the Algarve than just sun and sea. It has a unique charm which derives from the warmth of its people, its Moorish influence and the rich diversity of its majestic landscapes.

Portugal’s beautiful coastlines are characterised by miles of superb sandy beaches, pretty fishing villages with winding narrow streets and some of Europe’s best golf courses. Further inland you will find idyllic white-washed Moorish towns that shimmer in the sunlight over olive and orange groves and brightly coloured, verdant hillsides.

The area is home to some of Europe’s most established luxuryresorts which have excellent facilities and settings. A haven for sports enthusiasts, you can enjoy all manner of activities from golfing on the championship golf courses to sailing, surfing and water-skiing to a day at the world class tennis clubs. If you want to take some time out to enjoy some Portuguese culture you will find it in abundance in the pretty town of Tavira with its Roman Bridge or Lagos with a historic centre surrounded by 14th century walls.

Head further north to Lisbon, a vibrant and welcoming city with a vast amount of culture to experience. Tucked away from the main Atlantic  coast line, it enjoys a temperate climate and is home to some beautiful hotels.

This is definitely our best family holiday to date. The accommodation was spacious and well thought out. Whilst we used the on site restaurants for lunch and dinner, we ate breakfast in the room and made use of the Nespresso machine. The beach pool did get a little crowded but there were 3 other pools to choose from. The evening buffet wasn't to our liking but the beach restaurant was excellent. You could even make free use of the kids club in the evening so that parents could use the fine dining restaurant. The kids club was great with different activities at each session and for different age groups.

Fantastic resort designed with families of all ages (mine are 18mth and 4years)- great kids club and especially loved the idea of things for the kids to do while you are having a meal or drink. Beautiful pools, loved the bean bags, great kids areas, very clean and modern, and not too big to get around. On the negative side, the restaurants arn't that amazing - food is OK, but not wide choice for children or adults. 2 "family" restaurants and 1 adult only. Also quite pricey, but then again you expect to be paying over the odds within a reort and there is a supermarket a mile away. The on site supermarket isn't brilliant but it does stock nappies, wipes, bread, milk etc and the takeaway meals arn't bad - not delivering to the villas though, which was one of the things we thought was a great idea when we booked so that was disappointing. Staff need some training too as there were times when it was ridiculously slow and you have to book every time you want to eat out which is a pain as you don't always know what you want to eat. Overall though, really enjoyed the trip and would both recommend it and return for further holidays.
