Think of the Algarve in Southern Portugal and most people think of its endless beaches and fabulous climate, which is mild in winter and yet cooled by sea breezes in the heat of summer.
However there is much more to the Algarve than just sun and sea. It has a unique charm which derives from the warmth of its people, its Moorish influence and the rich diversity of its majestic landscapes.
Portugal’s beautiful coastlines are characterised by miles of superb sandy beaches, pretty fishing villages with winding narrow streets and some of Europe’s best golf courses. Further inland you will find idyllic white-washed Moorish towns that shimmer in the sunlight over olive and orange groves and brightly coloured, verdant hillsides.
The area is home to some of Europe’s most established luxuryresorts which have excellent facilities and settings. A haven for sports enthusiasts, you can enjoy all manner of activities from golfing on the championship golf courses to sailing, surfing and water-skiing to a day at the world class tennis clubs. If you want to take some time out to enjoy some Portuguese culture you will find it in abundance in the pretty town of Tavira with its Roman Bridge or Lagos with a historic centre surrounded by 14th century walls.
Head further north to Lisbon, a vibrant and welcoming city with a vast amount of culture to experience. Tucked away from the main Atlantic coast line, it enjoys a temperate climate and is home to some beautiful hotels.

Customer rating:

High quality hotel in an excellent location in the Rio Formosa national park, and also only a few miles from the airport. We had very nice evening meals but no alternative options without a car.
