Blessed with year-round sunshine, the island of Tenerife is an excellent place to escape to during our winter months andalthough the beaches and warm waters are its main appeal, it also has many other attractions which include the emergence of a new breed of deluxe hotels.

Tenerife is known mainly for its busy tourist areas, but there is much more to this diverse Canarian island. If you look further afield, away from the hustle and bustle, you can discover a lesser known side to the island including picturesque towns like Costa Adeje and La Laguna and areas of outstanding natural beauty, such the island's botanical gardens or the national park surrounding Mount Teide.

Lanzarote is located just off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. Being a volcanic island, it has some stunning scenic features such as the longest volcanic tunnel in the world, the Atlantida Tunnel. Despite the volcanic nature of the island, there are several beautiful white beaches such as Playa Blanca and Papagayo.

Gran Canaria is dubbed ‘The Small Continent’ as it has extremely varied landscapes with European, African and American vegetation. Maspalomas is the most beautiful of the many beaches on the island. Natural attractions such as a magnificent thermal spring called Balneario de los Berrazales and other volcanic sights are great for a day's sightseeing.

We had a most enjoyable holiday at the Princess Yaiza Hotel in Lanzarote, and have only one criticism of the otherwise excellent hotel facilities. The swimming pools were not heated, and early in the season, although the weather was good, the pool water was uncomfortably cold. It was noticeable that there were very few swimmers in a full hotel. It would require only a very small increase in the hotel tariff to cover the cost of heating the pools.

The hotel was excellent - we could not fault the service, rooms or anything. Any little problem was dealt with immediately and efficiently. The atmosphere was calm and tranquil - just what was needed in our case. The public areas were excellent - very clean and comfortable. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone. We were extremely lucky with the weather but I am sure it would have been just as enjoyable otherwise. Fabulous!

10 day B&B holiday with 3 year old and 1 year old October 2010 Lovely spacious family suite (upgraded to Kiko Suite) with 2 bedrooms. Plenty space and basic kitchenette Due to time of year kids activities not in full swing. Kiko buffet and snack bar not open and buffet over at Block D also not open. Made catering for little ones harder. Don't think an extra effort was made to involve kids in actvities even though the hotel was quiet. Service good and staff overall very friendly Pools are on cold side for younger children Overall enjoyable holiday for young family.

I highly recommend this hotel especailly if you have children. The location was perfect with a crystal clear ocean right outside the hotel and the pools were gorgeous. Oh and the morning buffets are something to remember. We are already thinking when we can go again in the future.

Positives: -The room was good size and adequately appointed - Good views. The hotel was very clean and tidy. The hotel was smart without being stuffy i.e. you weren't constantly worried about the behaviour of your children. The hotel was in a good location - Easy to walk to bars, restaurants, the beach and transportation. The staff were generally efficient if slightly on the surly side (I'm not sure that customer service comes naturally to the people of Lanzarote). Apart from the food at the buffet it was of a good standard. The pools were safe and well maintained (slightly refreshing temperature wise). Negatives: The food in the buffet was distinctly average and expensive. The pools could have been a little more imaginative. There could have been more for the children in the pool area. Drink and food by the pool was expensive. There was an area specifically for children but because it was so separate from the rest of the hotel the children didn't want to go there.

Excellent hotel for families with children aged 1 to 10 yrs. However the pools are too cold. Minor points gym needs air-con and no tea/coffee facilities in room.
